Our Lady of Mount Carmel School was a Roman Catholic elementary and middle school located in New Bedford, Massachusetts. It was Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish's parochial school. It opened in 1941 and closed in 2007 due to declining enrollment and financial struggles. == History == The school was founded in 1941 to serve the growing number of children in the parish.〔 The school originally served first through third grade, expanding over time.〔 It was originally staffed by the Sisters of St. Dorothy.〔 Sr. Cecilia Ferro, S.S.D. was the first principal.〔 The Dorothean Sisters left in 1997. That year, the school had 188 students. However, by 2002, that number had dropped to just 128. In 2007, the school was finally forced to close its doors amid declining enrollment and financial struggles.〔 The final class had only six graduates.〔
